Perception and Attention Paper free essay sample

Recognition and Attention Paper In the investigation of intellectual brain research, the hypothesis of psychological procedures has been exposed. These procedures could incorporate consideration, memory, observation, tactile, and visual recognition. Memory is made out of various factors, for example, transient memory, long haul memory, screen memory, remote memory, substitution memory, and immunologic memory. Visual recognition bargains information admission from a visual angle. The five detects, contact, taste, smell, sight, and hearing likewise time into the subjective procedure. Observation enables a person to have knowledge into some random circumstance. This is additionally how an individual can pick up information or instinct. Then again, there is consideration, which gives a person to capacity to concentrate intellectually. While every idea is similarly essential to subjective procedures, this will paper will investigate observation, consideration, and the connection between the two. Characterize the idea of observation Let considers all the things around us and what we look like at them consistently. When considering discernment an individual should consider every one of their faculties, these faculties include the capacity to get mindful of the progressions inside one’s body and psyche. As you travel, you may see questions that cause you to consider different things throughout your life. Consider the pinch of articles, the smell of different fragrances the may help you to remember a home-prepared feast and various sorts of music playing can likewise have an effect on an individual in an unexpected way. These things help make a cognizant nature and permit one to interface with the individuals and articles around us. Be that as it may, these recognitions differ from person. Along these lines, numerous individual see and perceive thing for different imminent when taking a gander at indistinguishable thing or circumstance. In addition, the proposal probably won't be the equivalent to every person. When taking a gander at one individual’s point of view there may be an extensive change to the significance to another person. The streaming together of complex tangible data sources frequently a period makes a recognition that is questionable or strange. At the end of the day, it is situated as a general rule (Robinson-Riegler, 2008). Separating the Perceptual Organizational Process The perceptual authoritative procedure is, as per Ruth Kimchi (2009) as the procedures that make visual data into getting units. Visual consideration is the strategy that structures representation data in an image picked. The choice picked are significant for the capacity to size up their imaging environmental factors and visuomotor, which is applicable to interfacing pictures and engine forms. The engine procedure is the part that manages development, letting the body realizes that the brain has the body’s consideration. Characterize the idea of consideration The procedures that permit us to play out these dynamic subjective procedure on the data that held mindfulness incorporate what alluded to as working memory (Robinson-Riegler, 2008). Robinson-Riegler (2008), states that consideration is constrained, and that an individual can't in any way, shape or form process everything that heard. Looking at the situation objectively, has there ever been where we remember everything that we have heard or seen. It is sufficiently hard to concentrate on what done, so in the event that we are taking a gander at our environmental factors and not focusing on what done, than we will likely not work admirably at what we are doing. It is additionally realized that consideration is viewed as adaptable such that people can change from introductory methods of regard for late modes (Robinson-Riegler p6 2008). Each individual has the control of how their approaching data prepared such that they can choose the data they need handled. There are two sorts of consideration separated consideration and particular consideration. In partitioned consideration, Robinson-Rielger (2008) depict it as assignments that comprise of the preparing of numerous information sources, where particular consideration includes picking one contribution to process to the detriment of others. A model would be guardians who are continually accomplishing more than each thing in turn, regardless of whether it is cooking, evolving diapers, or in any event, getting after their youngsters. In particular consideration, it is alluded to as shielding a person from being occupied and having them center. For instance, an understudy is attempting to concentrate in the library yet can't appear to center because of the copier going off and individuals talking. The understudy realizes the considering must be done, so accordingly discovers approach to shut out all the commotion. Consideration is significant for everybody to see; when an individual has, a superior comprehension of how they handle their capacity to focus it will be simpler for them to work in their regular daily existences. Breaking down the Nature of the Attention Process The idea of the consideration procedure is anything but difficult to grasp; consideration is the consequence of distinguishing the upgrades, be it a sound, article or picture. As per Yeshurun, Kimchi, Sha’shoua, and Carmel (2007) scientists have shown that perceptual association affects the daily schedule, upgrade driven activity of consideration. For instance, if an item flew very quick by a window, the passerby would accept the article is a feathered creature or a plane. The sound, regardless of whether a tweet or a murmur the item made, completes the assurance of the article. In another light of consideration, for instance, when individuals required to step through visual exams to acquire their driver’s licenses. Flashes of stars may appear in changed purposes of the screen: above, underneath, center, and focus. A purpose behind consideration star’s development is to check whether the potential driver can hold their consideration while driving. The other explanation is to perceive how well the driver’s vision is. Recognition and Attention fills in as the establishment for the start of an individual’s discernment. The range of people’s consideration is either spatial or object-based when utilizing viewable signs for discernment (Robinson-Riegler and Robinson-Riegler, 2008). Spatial visual consideration alludes individuals focusing on the space before them. Article based visual consideration alludes to the attention on specific items and the significance given to these articles inside a scene. Visual consideration brings data into center for the individuals to reach determinations from and act correspondingly. Visual consideration relies upon the worth individuals provide for approaching visual boosts. For instance, when advised to concentrate on one part of viewable prompts individuals may investigate different parts of the visual scene as a result of the failure for people to process every single obvious sign of a situation all the while. Inattentional visual deficiency alludes to things unfocused on in the scene and attentional catch alludes to those things that are seen by the individual (Robinson-Riegler and Robinson-Riegler, 2008). Visual boosts joined with sound-related upgrade presents an assortment of approaches to catch an individual’s consideration. Sound-related consideration presents in a similar way as visual consideration. Individuals are given a sound-related upgrades, the result of reaction depends on what qualities consideration given to the sound-related improvements. A few hypotheses exist clarifying the procedure of consideration in getting sound-related upgrades. One is the early determination hypothesis where data is gotten and sifted by a choice procedure by which the got data is forms (Robinson-Riegler and Robinson-Riegler, 2008). Constriction hypothesis alludes to the procedure by which perceptible upgrades is still perhaps got in any event, when people consideration is gotten some place other than the specific improvement (Robinson-Riegler and Robinson-Riegler, 2008). Regardless of whether individuals know about the sound-related boost or not the data despite everything goes into a level of attention to be later utilized or reviewed. The data is acquired in memory on account of an individual’s put away data that perceives the sound-related boost. Scientists additionally built up the late-choice hypothesis to represent the procedure of perceptible upgrades grabbing ones eye when it seems to have done as such. Late-determination hypothesis states people see every single perceptible upgrade; notwithstanding, not all data gets a similar consideration (Robinson-Riegler and Robinson-Riegler, 2008). The data unattended to is at that point held in the individual’s cognizance to be utilized or recovered when the individual finds an utilization for the data. On the off chance that the data is important the individual sees it. Consideration reinforces how much individuals see data; be that as it may, recognition likewise happens notwithstanding oblivious mindfulness. Individuals see data notwithstanding not having deliberately coordinated their consideration toward the upgrade. Various examinations show that recognition happens without mindfulness despite the fact that the capacity to review data or the genuine legitimacy of the data is darkened in some structure (Merikle, Smilek, and Eastwood, 2001). Singular recognition relies upon the esteemed data saw by the individual whether visual or discernible. The regard for data is the thing that gives the capacity to people to make discernments about their ecological upgrades. From the data gave it is comprehended that discernment and consideration are significant ideas to subjective procedures and advancement. It tends to be said that are firmly related and can depend or bolster one another. People are in charge of how they feel and respond in some random circumstance. Such emotions and responses can direct observation and the consideration that is given to the current circumstance. One ought to likewise comprehend the natural effect that can integrate with these psychological procedures. References Merikle, P. M. , Smilek, D. , Eastwood, J. D. (April, 2001). The corporate HR group as of late led an intensive needs appraisal in April of 201 3, and discovered numerous positive happenings and climax as of now set up in the company. There were in any case, a few issues that they saw during this procedure that required as tended to in the event that they needed to discover contain due achievement in the business. One significant worry that corporate HR and the executives felt should have been tended to promptly was the high turnover rates inside the organization. The appraisal likewise indicated low representative fulfillment, and a significant part of the staff communicated worry with the way that was no direction or locally available program set up, and they were frequently left to get familiar with the activity on their own. There was no proper direction, with workers going through around 30 minutes with one of the human asset administra tors to talk about advantages and round out desk work, and afterward about a day being prepared by individual representatives on how the PC frameworks work, and how to plan patients for different investigations or assessments. Human Resource Development Intervention Once the requirements appraisal had been finished, HR established that changes should have been instituted so as to improve worker fulfillment levels, to decrease turnover rates, and to utilize an increasingly denaturized installed and direction process. If was felt that a great part of the accentuation ought to be set on building up a locally available procedure and preparing program, and in doing so it was felt that the turnover rates would drop and the fulfillment rates would increase. Consequently an activity plan was executed so as to make a locally available a direction program. As indicated by creator Patricia Duration (2007), there are three key components of a fruitful locally available program. These incorporate an obviously recognized procedure, having the help of supervisors and other authoritative pioneers, and maturing sure there is auspicious follow up at the end of the direction class.Because there was no formal installed program or direction program set up, it was immediately understood that these were all zones that necessary improvement. There was no conventional installed process. Representatives were acquired, and promptly set to work with next to no preparation. The desire was that they would find out about the estimations of the organization as they worked. Preparing was constrained and given at work. This protest was felt among huge numbers of the workers, particularly those that were in the autonomous clinical assessment bunch which requires being very meticulous, and ready to deal with numerous errands rapidly and effectively. There was no obviously characterized program to update new representatives and train them appropriately on their separate positions. As the HR group a ssessed these occasions, they understood that the initial step was to concocted the targets of what they need their new locally available and direction procedure to achieve. This beginnings with making a legitimate preparing program for recently recruited employees. Instructional Design Plan In request to address this issue successfully and make a compelling unbarring and direction program it is critical to evaluate what estimates should be taken. It is basic that HR has a wide comprehension of the learning style of the members so as to make the best possible goals for the guidance. For this situation, what is required is an arrangement to make a progressively exhaustive locally available and direction. The target here is make a locally available that responds to all inquiries that new representatives may have, to ensure that workers are appropriately arranged to the organization and their position, and that preparation rules are set up so workers don't feel that they have been put i n a do or die situation.Learning Objectives By finishing the instructional structure plan, and joining that with the consequences of the requirements appraisal, just as criticism from overviews given to the board and representatives, it is feasible for the Human Resources group to have the option to figure out what destinations are significant for them to meet all together for new direction classes and installed meetings to be effective. For this situation the primary instructional course should concentrate on the significance of the locally available program. In this specific case, this meeting needs to include a mineral definite review of the organization structure, as this will help new representatives in better understanding the internal activities of the organization, and realize the best possible convention to follow when questions emerge. Target number two identifies with the way this is an unmistakable kind of workplace, since you are managing laborers remuneration, and the p articular guidelines and guidelines that each state has.It is comprehended that a large number of the fresh recruits don't have explicit preparing in laborers pay programs, and that huge time should be spent clarifying specialists pay lagers and guidelines, and how they vary from state to State. The third significant target that should be tended to in this program is client support and the significance of fortunate magnificent support of the client. New workers should be prepared on the best way to deal with different issues when they emerge, while keeping the client educated regarding the circumstance at all times.New staff needs to have an installed and direction procedure of at any rate fourteen days. The primary week in the installed meetings, finding out about organization culture, and having in-administrations on client support. In the second seven day stretch of work the new worker ought to be doled out to a senior colleague whom they can shadow and be appropriately prepared in their position. Exercise Plan According to Werner and Decision (201 2), a successful exercise plan spreads out the bit by bit motivation of the preparation process. In the instance of Med-Veal, this exercise plan is being set up for another representative locally available and direction class. Locally available and direction are to happen at corporate base camp in Sterling, Virginia, and this won't change. Or on the other hand on account of SST. Ensemble Hospice, the arrangement for the new representative direction class. As recently referenced the primary week will be the installed procedure, where they will learn organization culture, meet different staff individuals including individuals from HR, the board and payroll.A test exercise plan would be as per the following: Med †Veal On †Boarding Day 1 Objective: To Introduce new workers to Med †Veal. Coronary Artery Disease ( Cad ) - 1428 Words

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND Coronary artery disease (CAD; also more simply referred to as coronary heart disease) is a specific type of atherosclerosis, which is in turn a form of arteriosclerosis (Dulson, Fraser, LeDrew, Vavitas, 2011). All of these medical conditions entail the same problem, which hinders proper blood flow of oxygenated blood in the arteries: the sclerosis (that is, hardening) of arteries in the circulatory system (Sclerosis [medicine], 2016). Arteriosclerosis is a general term used to describe the stiffening of arteries particularly resulting from the process of mere ageing, but may also occur due to the presence of other aspects such as hypertension and/or the accumulation of plaque in and/or on the arterial walls, which consists of numerous components including lipids (cholesterol in particular), calcium, and other substances present within the bloodstream; atherosclerosis is specifically associated with plaque buildup in the arteries (if it occurs in one of the coronary arteries, which supply oxygenated blood to the myocardial tissue itself, it is further classified as CAD) (Difference between arteriosclerosis and atherosclerosis, 2014; Dulson et al., 2011). The School Dress Code Is One Of The Most Enforced School...

The school dress code is one of the most enforced school policies of all time for students of any age and gender. Of course, everyone has an opinion about what clothing is up to par in society; however, according to the school system, middle school and high school girls are all, how the students put it, whorish. Because of this label, there are very specific rules, right down to the T, about what students can and cannot wear while on school grounds. 1. Skirts, dresses, and shorts cannot be more than 2  ¼ inches above the knee. 2. Shorts shall have four-inch inseam and shall not be tight to the body. So they are trying to tell me and the rest of the student body that we can only wear long shorts? Is it just me, or does that bunch of bull†¦show more content†¦Is Steve Urkel going to be punished for wearing his pants and socks too high? I guess it’s a good thing that they don’t allow us to show our shoulders. Showing our shoulders is very suggestive, didn’t you know? I mean seriously, we teenagers get so aroused by shoulders. I wonder what would happen if we all walked around with our shoulders showing all day. The possibilities are endless, and the administration just wouldn’t know what to do. And since when does a shirt cover your entire body? There is no such thing as a shirt that covers a person head-to-toe that teenagers would wear on a daily basis, unless they require that we all conform to wearing the traditional Muslim burka. Our public schools, run by a government that believes in the separation of Church and State, expect us to go as low as violating our religion and wear a burka to school every damn day. Research Paper on Chinese Immigration to Canada Essay Example Essay Example

Research Paper on Chinese Immigration to Canada Essay Example Paper Research on Chinese Immigration to Canada Essay Introduction Centuries ago leaving China to go overseas was a great crime because only the enemy and deliberate criminal of the nation would choose to abandon and move away from the greatest civilization on Earth. (1) In 18th century there was even a law proclaimed by the emperor stating that a person who went abroad had to come home in order to be publicly beheaded. Leaving China was also regarded as un-Confucian. Sons were meant to stay in the home village, to keep the ancestral graves clean and the clan’s lineage unbroken. (1) But no matter how problematic it was to leave China, Chinese people for many centuries, have been emigrating and creating distinctively Chinese communities outside their Mainland China, even as they adjust to the laws and acculturate to the foreign cultures and in which they put down roots. The Chinese community in Canada has a very old and reach history, the first Chinese baby boy who was a real Canadian was born in 1861. (2) The first appearances of Chinese in C anada can be dated to 1788, when Chinese shipwrights were employed at Nootka Sound to built the first European-type vessel in the Pacific Northwest, that was afterwards named North West America. However, Chinese people first appeared in large numbers in the Colony of Vancouver Island in 1849 as part of the huge â€Å"Gold Rush swept†. A decade later, â€Å"California’s gold veins were drying up as fast as anti-Oriental feeling was growing.† When the word of a golden strike filtered down in the Fraser River Valley in 1858, Chinese prospectors were among those who spread the rumor north. Unlike the California goldfields, where Chinese were persecuted and humiliated, the Chinese in British Columbia were protected by edict of Governor James Douglas, who proclaimed that the Chinese had the same rights as all others, including â€Å"First Nations peoples†, to work and reside in the country (colony). Even though Chinese workers were officially protected by the B ritish law they still had to face persecutions and humiliations, because all kinds of conflicts were continually appearing between them and the white people One such conflict even turned into the Rock Creek War in the Kettle River valley. (3) Research on Chinese Immigration to Canada Essay Body Paragraphs The workers from China were the main labor force in bulidng the Canadian Pacific Railway that was constructed by Andrew Onderdonk in 1880. Decding to join the confereation in 1871 British Columbia stated one of condtiones to be that the â€Å"Dominion government build a railway linking B.C. with eastern Canada within 10 years.† As the governemtn of Canada wanted to cut back the spdenings, it chose to hire the immigratns from China to buil the railway. However, after the building of Canadian Pacific railroad was finished in 1885, Canada had no need in the Chinese labor force anymore. As a result, the Chinese Immigration Act was passed that was putting a â€Å"Head Tax† of $50 on any Chinese immigrant coming to Canada. After the 1885 legislation failed to deter Chinese immigration to Canada, the government of Canada passed The Chinese Immigration Act, 1900 to increase the tax to $100, and The Chinese Immigration Act, 1904 furthered increased the landing fees to $500 (equi valent to $8000 in 2003 – as compared to the Right of Landing Fee, or Right of Permanent Residence Fee, of merely $975 per person paid by new immigrants in 1995-2005, and further reduced to $490 in 2006.)(3) The Chinese Immigration Act, 1923, that is better known as the Chinese Exclusion Act, replaced prohibitive fees with an outright ban on Chinese immigration to Canada with the exceptions of merchants, diplomats, students, and â€Å"special circumstances† cases. (3) During the Great Depression, life was even tougher for the Chinese than it was for other Canadians, for example they received much less relief payments than other Canadians. And as any additional immigration was prohibited by the Chinese Exclusion Act Chinese men had to deal with the hardships of life alone being far away from their wives and children. Census data from 1931 shows that there were 1240 men to every 100 women in Chinese-Canadian communities. To protest The Chinese Exclusion Act, Chinese-Cana dians closed their businesses and boycotted Dominion Day celebrations every July 1st, which became known as â€Å"Humiliation Day† by the Chinese-Canadians. (6) During the Second World War than 500 Chinese Canadian men served in the Canadian Army. However, only in 1947 Chinese Canadians gained the right to vote in federal elections. In 1959 the boarders of Canada got opened for the wives and children of the men who were at that time working in Canada and that contributed greatly to the developing of the Chinese community. Chinese Indonesian s first arrived in Canada in 1960s during anti-Chinese riots in Indonesia. From 1970s – 1999, many more Chinese Indonesians settled in Canada. After the American intervention in Vietnam a lot of Chinese people from Vietnam, Laos, and Kampuchea came to Canada as refugees. Early Chinese Canadians have close relationships with them as a result of their Chinese heritage because they lived mostly in Quebec. There were also Chinese people coming form Latin America, nowadays they are mostly settled in Victoria, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. But the was fled from the Somoza that was ruled by a dictator and was effected by the earthquake in 1980’s. As most countries that are experiencing a huge flow of immigration it took Canada quite a long time to lift the restrictions against the Chinese-Canadians and grant them full rights and powers of Canadian citizens. After the end of WWII Canada signed the United Nations Charter of Human Rights. The Canadian government had to immediately cancel the Chinese Exclusion Act, which was undemocratic and inappropriate for the UN. As stated before, in that same year, 1947, Chinese-Canadians were finally granted the right to vote in federal elections. But only after a pass of 20 years the points system for selecting immigrants was adopted and the Chinese began to be admitted under the same criteria as any other applicants. (3) The years 1978 and 1985 were the years of great change in the immigrant laws that promoted the arrival of wealthy entrepreneurs from Hong Kong and Taiwan. â€Å"They had to show a net worth of at least $500,000 and investment in a Canadian business venture of at least $250,000.† The changes were introduced just as Hong Kong money was growing twitchy about the approach of the colony’s July 1997 handover to China. (1) After many years of organized calls for an official Canadian government public apology and redress to the historic Head tax, the minority Conservative government of Stephen Harper announced as part of their pre-election campaign, an official apology. â€Å"On Thursday, June 22, 2006, Prime Minister Stephen Harper delivered a message of redress in the House of Commons, calling it a â€Å"grave injustice†.† A number of well-educated Chinese arrived to Canada as refugees in search of rescue. Since the mid-20th century, most new Chinese Canadians come from university-educated families, one of w hose most essential values is still quality education. These newcomers are a major part of the â€Å"Brain gain† the inverse of the infamous â€Å"Brain drain†, i.e., Canadians leaving to the United States of America, which Chinese have also been a part of. (3) However, the majority of the Chinese who came to Canada from the mid-19th century, up to the 1960s, were from Guangdong province where the dialect was spoken. When the Chinese Exclusion Act was repealed after the Second World War, the wives and children of these early immigrants were allowed to come to join their husbands and fathers. Many of this group were from peasant backgrounds, they were the Lao Huaqiao. Many of them ran businesses and later their children inherited them and continued and family cases. In Canada if you don’t speak English or French it is most likely that you speak Chinese that is shown by the latest survey conducted by the Canadian government. Chinese has become and number 3 languag e in Canada and the amount of people using it is growing rapidly. According to Nouvelles d’Europe from 1996 to 2001, the population whose mother tongue is Chinese grew 18 percent and reached 870,000 – about 2.9 percent out of 31.4 million of the population in Canada, a rise 0.3 percent over the original Chinese proportion of 2.6 percent. (4) Canada is a country of diversity. In addition to Aboriginal people and the founding British and French groups, there are a wide variety of ethnic groups represented in the Canadian population, including large numbers of German, Italian, Dutch, Ukrainian, Chinese, Black, and Indo-Pakistani people, among others (Kelly, 1995; Renaud Badets, 1993). Around 10% of the adult population of Canada is minorities, and the figure is expected to rise in the future (Kelly, 1995). Such studies and researches contribute toward understanding and â€Å"promoting positive relations† among the varied ethnic groups from different geographical a nd cultural backgrounds who are now calling themselves Canadian. (6) In 1990s more than half of the immigrants who came to the country with a business related purpose were from Hong Kong or Taiwan. In recent decades, however, most new Chinese Canadians have actually been middle-class rather than super-rich. Indeed, in the past 50 years, more than half the Chinese who have immigrated to Canada have been in white-collar occupations. They have tended to settle on the outskirts of big cities, mostly Toronto and Vancouver. The last national survey had shown that the Chinese population is around 920,000 right now and keeps on growing. The appearance of Chinese Diaspora was one of the great events in the modern Canadian history, and the story of its sojourners and migrant workers was one of â€Å"pain, courage, and enterprise†. Immigration is a very important aspect in the development of the country because it brings diversity, and Canada is the best example of this. Because highly educated and upwardly mobile, the recent arrivals have transformed and will keep transforming the Canadian society. What Is Summer School Guide for High School Students

What Is Summer School Guide for High School Students SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips When you think of how you want to spend your summer vacation, sitting in a classroom is probably not the first thing that comes to mind. However, summer school can be a great way for you to get ahead in high school and give yourself an advantage in college admissions. These days students with all kinds of grades take summer classes. You might take summer school to understand a particular subject better,to free up more time in your schedule during the school year, or to take an advanced class at your high school, nearby college, or online. Read this complete guide on summer school for high school students to learneverything you need to know about what summer school is, why people take it, and how you can use it to get ahead. What Is Summer School? You probably know that summer school refers to classes that students take during the summer, outside of the regular academic school year. However, more specifically, summer school for high school students can be a lot of different things: It can be a way for you to retake a class you found difficult, take specialized courses in areas that interest you, get a head-start on prerequisites and college classes, and more. Summer school can be classes done through your high school, at a community college or local university, or through a program that includes classes, such as a summer camp. Online summer school, where students take classes primarily on a computer at home, is becoming more popular. Many of these classes require students to visit the school once or twice to take exams or turn in final projects, but some classes are also offered completely online.Online classes may be offered through your high school, a college or university, or through a specialized online high school program. Why Do Students Take Summer School? As mentioned above, there are multiple reasons why a high school student would take classes over the summer. Below are three of the most common reasons. Reason 1: To Improve Their Grades Historically, the most common reason thatpeople took summer school was that they needed to improve their grades in one or more classes. There are still many students who take summer school for this reason, and many of them find it easier to earn bettergrades during the summer because summer school often hassmaller classes, more one-on-one interaction with the teacher, and fewer distractions, such as other classes, school sports, or clubs to worry about. Reason 2: To Take Specialized Classes Sometimes, students will also take summer school classes in order to take a certain class they wouldn’t be able to enroll in during the school year. This could be a class they don’t have room in their schedule for or a specialized class, such as a course on a specific subject or an intensive foreign language course. Some schools also offer short certificate programs over the summer. These can cover a variety of topics, such as entrepreneurship, computer science, and more. Sometimes schools offer classes during the summer that they don’t normally offer during the school year. You will likely have an even wider variety of summer school class options if you look at classes at community colleges or online.Taking a specialized class can allow you to learn more about a topic you’re interested in and help you gain new skills and knowledge. Reason 3: To Prepare For College Summer school can also help you get a head start on the rest of your education, including college. Some students take summer school as a way to get prerequisites out of the way so that they can take more advanced classes during the school year. At my high school, every student was required to take a basic typing class before they graduated, and many students took this class over the summer because it wasn’t very challenging and could be taken online. This gave us an extra space in our schedule to fill with an elective we wanted to take. You can also take community college classes over the summer, which you may be able to get high school or college credit for. These classes can help you get more used to what college classes will be like so that you feel more prepared and confident once you start college. Having college classes, even introductory classes from a community college, will also strengthen your college applications because it will show schools that you can handle the rigor of a college course. How Can You Do Well in Summer School? Whatever the reason you’re taking summer school classes, it’s important that you do well in them. They’re using up some of your important summer time, and you want to make sure you don’t waste that time by doing poorly in the classes. Summer school classes are a bit different from classes taken during the school year, and there are a few strategies you can use to maximize your chances of success. Tip 1: Take Fewer Classes at a Time Unless you absolutely need to take multiple classes in order to graduate, it’s a good idea to only take 1-2 classes at a time during summer school.Summer school classes are often shorter than regular classes (often 6-8 weeks long, compared to a whole semester), so they are usuallymore intensive and require a greater time commitment. Taken fewer classesis especially important if you are retaking a particular class because you’ll be ableto be able to focus more of your time and energy on getting a higher grade this time around if you don’t have other classes to worry about. Tip 2: Create a Study Schedule Taking summer classes can be hard. There are probably a lot of things you’d rather be doing like seeing your friends, being outside, playing sports, etc.,and it can be easy to get distracted. Either before or right after you start summer school, create a study schedule that lets you plan when you will put aside time to study and do homework. If you can set aside the same time every day, like 4:00-5:30pm every afternoon, that can make it easier to stick to your study schedule and plan other activities.Set goals for what you want to accomplish each day or week, whether it’s a project you need to complete, papers to read, or just general studying and homework. On the other hand, make sure you are giving yourself enough time to take a break and relax. Summer school can be demanding, and if you overtax yourself, you may end up burned out by the time the school year starts, which you don’t want to do because it could cause your other grades to suffer. If you need help creating your study schedule, ask a parent or teacher for some guidance. Tip 3: Ask For Help Early Summer school classes are often smaller than regular classes, and this means you’ll have more interaction with the teacher. Use this to your advantage by asking for help early if something confuses you or doesn’t make sense.Particularly if you are retaking a class you struggled in before, you want to make sure you don’t repeat the same mistakes you did the first time.Teachers are happy to help students who ask, and they won’t think any questions you askare dumb, so don’t be afraid to let them know you need something explained more or in a different way. If you’ve already taken the class before and know whichareas you struggled in, you may want to tell this to your teacher early on so they can prepare you for the topic better and possiblygive you some additional material to look over to make sure you understand the subject. Asking a teacher for extra help as soon as you don't understand the material can help you keep your grades up in summer school. Should You Take Summer School? If you’re wondering whether or not to take summer school, ask yourself the following three questions. If any of the scenarios apply to you, then you may want to consider summer classes. For each scenario, the best way to take these summer classes is also mentioned so you can be sure you get the benefits you want out of summer school. Question 1: Do You Want, or Need, to Improve Your Grades? Is there an especially low grade on your transcript that you wish you could erase? If you did poorly in a certain class, summer school is a great way to redeem yourself and retake the class for (hopefully!) a better grade. Even just one especially low grade, such as a D or F, can really bring down your GPA and hurt your chances of getting into competitivecolleges.Even if the class shows up as a retake on your transcript, if you got a good grade in itthe second time around, that will look much better than havinga very low grade. Best option: If this is the case for you, you will probably take your summer school classes through your high school in order to improve your grade in a particular class. Question 2: Are There Specific Classes You're Interested in Taking? Is there a class you’d like to take that is only offered in the summer or you don’t have time to take during the school year? Summer school could be a way to fit it into your schedule. You could get creative here and take a class in photography, wilderness skills, a foreignlanguage, ora differentinterest you have. Summer school doesn't have to be boring! Best option: Depending on which classes you’re interested in, you can take them through your high school, at a community college, at a summer program, or online. Talk to your academic adviserif you’re not sure which classes to take and want to know what your options are. If you take classes at a place other than your high school, make sure you understand exactly if and how you will receive credit for them. Question 3: Do You Want to Get Ahead on Classes? Are you trying to get prerequisitesout of the way or want totake advanced classes toimprove your chances of getting into a competitive college? If so, taking summer classes can be a way for you to have more space in your schedule for other classes, strengthen your transcript, and be more prepared for college. Best option: If you’re trying to take some prerequisites over the summer, you’ll probably take them through your high school because courses through other schools may not meet the prereq requirements. If you want to take classes to prepare you for college, you will likely take these at a community college or nearby university. You may also be able to take advanced summer classes through your high school. Should You Do Online Summer School? Online summer school for high school students is becoming more and more popular, and it’s easy to see why. Online classes often allow you to do schoolwork on your own schedule and reduce the time and hassle of traveling to class. However, is online summer school a good idea for everyone? Online classes can have several drawbacks including the following: Less direct interaction with the instructor Requires more self-motivation Can be more challenging to understand If you’re trying to decide whether or not to take summer school online, you should talk to people who know your study habits, such as teachers and parents, to help make the best decision. However, in general, you shouldn’t take online summer school classes if you struggle to motivate yourself to study and complete work on time, or if you struggled with the class before and want more guidance from and interaction with the instructor. Both of these issuescan be exacerbated with online classes. You should also base your decision on how difficult you expect the class to be. For a relatively easy class, you need to take as a basic graduation requirement, such as typing or health, online classes will likely cause you fewer problems than if you were taking a more challenging course. Because the class you're taking isn't that difficult, you'll be able to handle the issuesthat online classes can sometimes create, and you'll be able to easily get the class out of the way and focus on tougher classes during the school year. Summary There are many reasons for students take summer school, whether it’s to improve their grades, take a certain class they couldn’t take during the school year, or become more prepared for college. Summer school can be taken through your high school, at a community or local college, or through a company or organization that offers summer classes. Most summer classes are in-person, but online classes are becoming more popular. You don’t want to waste your summer taking a class you end up not doing well in. In order to make sure you get good grades in summer school you should limit the number of classes you take, create a study schedule, and ask for help early on if you don’t understand the material. If you’re not sure whetheryou should take summer school or you don’t know what classes to take, talk to a teacher, parent, or academic adviserto figure out what the best option for you is. Comparison of the Persian Gulf War of 1991 and The Iraq War of 2003 Essay

Comparison of the Persian Gulf War of 1991 and The Iraq War of 2003 - Essay Example War and reports of war have been a reality of our life, more so in recent times. After 9/11, the threat of war had been looming large, especially with the President George Bush coming out with knee-jerk jingoistic reactions, which was pardonable considering the shock and dismay generated by the incident. Then came the actual war in 2003. The question of the political expediency of the War of 2003 was drowned in a collective American fear of threats to security. George Bush's speeches were also engineered to keep the morale of the people high, in the tradition of past war leaders of the world (Churchill, for instance)In this war rhetoric, the image of the American soldier was glorified. The soldier was a savior and a friend. In the First Gulf War of 1991, George Bush, Sr. had done the same thing. He depicted through his speeches, the perfect image of an American soldier. Our soldiers, he said, are "some of the finest men and women of the United State of America" who "leave their spouse s and their children, to serve on the front line halfway around the world. They remind us who keeps America strong: they do." (Bush). He continues, "in the face of danger, they are brave; they are well-trained, and dedicated" (Bush) He mentions that they are willing to sacrifice their lives and their time to be with their families to fight for peace for the whole world (!)There is deceptiveness, conscious or unconscious, in a speech of this nature. It is implied that peace is brought about through war - a debatable statement. There is also an implication that those who fight are there, by their own free will. "There was an American soldier who said to an Iraqi soldier: 'it's okay, you are all right, you are all right'. . . Let us always be caring and good and generous in all we do" (Bush) The image is sought to be created as if the American soldiers have gone to have a party in Iraq. It needs a vigilant media to talk of an Abu-Ghraib or a Guantanamo Bay. Bush's American soldier is t he perfect gentleman (something like the British image of their 'bobby'- the gentle policeman - who nevertheless shot an innocent Brazilian immigrant on mere suspicion that he was responsible for the London train station bombings!) Bush's speeches are cleverly done, and achieve the purpose they want. In that sense they are masterpieces of their own genre of political writing. However, they seem to fall on the border of fact and fiction. Coming to Swofford's Jarhead- the irony is that this is 'fiction', but it gives a more real picture of war than do Bush's speeches! Swofford talks of the war from a soldier's perspective. There is no attempt to romanticize it. He talks of the dirt and the dust, and the rape, pillage and arson that taint war. He brings home to us that there is never a clean war or a good war. All war is terrible and dehumanizing. Swofford himself fought as a young marine in the Gulf War of the 1990's. He had written his memoirs then, and he uses this to liberally create the atmosphere of his story. He writes of writing to loved ones, " I was in the desert, sending out messages worldwide, claiming for love with my pen, and with each letter I wrote and sealed part of me escaped the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. At time I thought I might write myself away" (Swofford, 37). Swofford's book is a powerful book about the truth of war. As a matter of fact, we must remember that throughout history, there have been many who have fought wars and have come back convinced that peace is the only solution for bringing about lasting comfort to all humanity. Swofford tells what we all perhaps instinctively know, that the real reasons for war are "the old white fuckers and others who have billions of dollars to gain or lose in the oil fields, the deep, rich, flowing oil fields of the kingdom of Saud" (Swofford, 11). Solyan's article, What Bodies talks about the attempt by the US government to hide truth from

Social Psychology of the Learning Environment Essay

Social Psychology of the Learning Environment - Essay Example It is evident from the study that when social psychology is being linked with the learning environment, student-teacher relationship is often given high regard. Social psychology as defined by Mashek and Hammer is the study of how individuals are influenced by other people and the situations they find themselves into. Conversely, according to Fiske et al., the science of social psychology is predicated on the simple fact that human thought, emotion and behaviour are immensely affected by the real, implied and imagined presence of people. Moreover, there are times that individuals’ thoughts, feelings and actions are influenced when they simply think about other persons, speculate about their objectives, visualize their reactions, or even fantasize about them, and a great deal of attention has been paid to how people respond when they think about other individuals. However, social psychology is concerned mainly with how individuals are influenced and affected by those people who m they relate with as stressed by Fiske et al. Social psychology is said to concentrate at three varied levels of analysis. According to Mashek and Hammer, the three stages of analysis are individual processes, interpersonal processes and group processes. Individual processes are employed when regarding phenomena such as impression formation, attitudes and persuasion. Subsequently, interpersonal processes form the groundwork for romantic relationships, friendships and helping behaviours (Mashek & Hammer, 2011). Lastly, group processes are taken into consideration when studying conformity, group decision making and jury behaviour (Mashek & Hammer, 2011). The aforementioned levels of analysis provide the foundation of social psychology as well as the diverse kinds of influence that social methods can take (Mashek & Hammer, 2011). In the classroom setting, the previously cited levels of analysis can be utilized to understand erudition and instruction. For instance, interpersonal proces sed are apparent in the teacher-pupil relationship which may have an impact on learning. Furthermore, the learning environment also employs the use of group processes which aids in facilitating learning. Learning Learning mechanisms provide means through which information about chronic developmental environments are acquired (Fiske et al., 2010). Moreover, it provides strategies through which organisms obtain information about temporary contexts, hence giving them the means to resourcefully modify behavioural responses (Fiske et al., 2010). Affiliation Affiliation as defined by Fiske et al. (2010) is the act of associating or interacting with one or a variety of individuals. The concept of affiliation bears no indication of the quality, affective tone, or length of the social encounter or the nature of the relationship between the people (Fiske et al., 2010). As Fiske et al. (2010) describes it, when people want to affiliate, they only wish to be in the company of and to relate with others. Hence, many theorists supposed that relating with and being in the company of other persons is an essential social behaviour (Fiske et al., 2010). Having an affiliation is crucial in learning because such relationships may greatly contribute to the learning process of a specific individual for the reason that their experience of interacting with other individuals may teach them a variety of new things and to help them explore a wide array of concepts that may be unique to them. Tutor-learner Relationship The tutor-learner relationship can be effective if it imbibes a positive and caring development of the space or time, interpersonal and

Catholic form of Christianity Essay Example for Free

Catholic form of Christianity Essay The Eastern Orthodox form of Christianity and the Roman Catholic form of Christianity as said to differ on many fundamental issues. Most individuals, in attempting to distinguish between Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism, immediately just cite that the differences are in the Pope or Purgatory or even sometimes the filioque. Historically, however, the differences are far more numerous and quite profound. The first fundamental difference between these two religions is on the issue of the fall of man. Roman Catholicism teaches that all humanity is liable for their original sin and that all men are born with â€Å"original sin†. The implications of Adam and Eve’s banishment from the Garden of Eden in the Roman Catholic Faith are that man is born with original sin and nothing more, unlike the beliefs of the Eastern Orthodox, who believe that when Adam sinned against God, he introduced death into the world. The fall of Adam or the fall of man in the view of the Eastern Orthodox form of Christianity signifies the mortality of man and that death highlights the passions in man such as anger, hate, lust and greed which are borne out of the realization of death. Roman Catholicism ignores the Orthodox conception of man as slave to death and instead believes that man’s passions are manipulated by the devil. Another fundamental difference between Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholicism is on the issue regarding the interpretations of canons. In the Roman Catholic faith, canons are rules or guides for governing The Roman Catholic Church. The Roman Catholic Church also continually evolves these canons by introducing new ones or revising them to suit the needs of the changing times and cultures. The Eastern Orthodox does not regard these canons as laws, which regulate human relationships or secure human rights. The Orthodoxy views canons as the means of forging the new man or new creature through obedience. Canons are trainings in virtue that are meant to produce holiness. While the Roman Catholic Church, as previously mentioned, currently updates the canons and discards the old ones, the Eastern Orthodox Church Orthodoxy never discards the old ones because of their belief that those cannons were also inspired by the Holy Spirit. Arguably, the most important fundamental difference between the Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholic forms of Christianity is in the manner of knowing the existence of God. The Eastern Orthodox faith believes that man’s knowledge of God is intrinsic in his nature. Man is born with the knowledge of God because it is inherent in human nature and that is how man knows that God truly exists. This belief also holds that man’s knowledge of God is fixed in nature and man cannot know anything more about the truths of God unless God chooses to reveal this to man. This belief is contrary to the Roman Catholic belief that God’s existence is constantly known, felt and verified by an examination of the other things that God has created in this world. Human reason, as the Roman Catholic Church believes, is capable of knowing and proving the existence of God. Man is capable of beholding the essence of God with his intellect and with the assistance of grace. The Eastern Orthodox Church therefore believes that God’s existence is already known to man by his nature while the Roman Catholic Church establishes the existence of God through man’s use of reason. These Three (3) fundamental differences, fall of man, canons and proof of God’s existence, differentiate what seem to be similar if not identical branches of Christianity. But as many have said, it really does not matter how you worship and revere God in so much as you follow the truths in life such as charity, love, peace and respect for all of mankind.

The Deep End Of The Ocean :: essays research papers

The Deep End of the Ocean   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In the film The Deep End of the Ocean, we can apply some concepts discussed in the Interpersonal Communication curse. The film emphasis a communication problem into a family after the Ben’s abduction. Ben was the middle child of Beth and Pat. The older son was Vincent, who had an important role in the drama, and Kerry was the smaller. The abduction took place during Beth’s class reunion. After nine years, Beth found him, he was leaving very close to the real family. Ben and his false father never knew that he was abducted because they were betrayed by the woman who took him at the class reunion. The problem was that Ben wants to stay leaving with the man who take care of him. At the end of the film Ben understood that his place was with the Cappadora’s family   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Through the movie we are able to see how painful it was to the Cappadora family to deal with the lost of a member. I say that the film emphasis a communication problem because after the tragedy, Beth never was the same. She was not communicating with anyone and there we see a miscommunication problem explained in the class. The affected with this situation was Vincent, who felt abandon because her mom never communicate to him and in a certain way she never paid attention to him thinking about Ben all the time. Pat, her husband, also paid the consequence of the miscommunication problem and in different ways he try to help Beth communicate better and to get over the emotional crisis.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  We are able to see the transition Beth had. After the tragedy she was impossible to talk with but at the end she change with everyone help and also by herself. She understood that caring about the lost child she abandons the one that was always with her. She recognizes that the better way to begin a new better communication with Vincent was begging him the pardon. Even thou the lost of the child were the main conflict of the movie, to me the most important thing is the reaction or the way all the family members confront it. Sometimes with this kind of problems we close ourselves to other people and that’s not the better way to get over it. With this kind of attitude we hurt or even lose more people.
